At the viewpoint of health promotion, we measured the subjective symptoms of fatigue and stress of 805 pilots. With 30 item questionnaire of subjective symptom and 12 item General Health Questionnaire(GHQ-12), the fatigue and stress of the pilots were measured. The questionnaire for fatigue be comprised of 3 symptom groups of 10 items each, representing dullness and sleepiness(¥°), difficulty in concentration(¥±), bodily projection of fatigue(¥²). The means of the group ¥°, ¥±, and ¥² symptoms were 2.27, 1.33, 0.91 respectively, so the patters of ¥°>¥±>¥² indicated that the type of fatigue was
that of mental work. ¡¯Whole body feels tired,¡¯ ¡¯yawing a lot,¡¯ ¡¯head feels muddled,¡¯ ¡¯eye strain,¡¯ ¡¯feel drowsy¡¯ from group ¥°, ¡¯Feel anxious about things¡¯ from group ¥± were the symptoms that more than 20% of participants complained. 187 persons(27.4%) who have more than 3 of the GHQ-12 score complained statistically significantly more symptoms
in the 3 symptom groups. The partial correlation coefficients of stress and fatigue symptoms group ¥°, ¥±, and ¥² were 0.25, 0.33, 0.27 respectively. All the three were statistically significant. The 3 partial variables were age, regular
sleep and frequency of eating breakfast.
